TIPS TO REMEMBER WHEN USING THE RADIO:
-
Be calm and speak clearly
-
Be brief with your message
-
Be patient and wait for a response
-
Clear the airwaves when finished
HOW TO CALL GRANBY:
- Be sure the radio is turned on. The on/off button is the middle knob marked “PRI”, NOT the red on/off switch on the left front. (The red switch should always be left in the “on” position.)
-
The radio should be left on, so that Junco Cabin can call about backpacking permits.
-
Tune radio until channel display says “S Cotton".
- Listen for 20 seconds to make sure the air is clear.
- Press the transmit button on the side of the handheld control, delay one
second before speaking, and hold pressed while speaking into the control.
- Say “GRANBY----MONARCH”, release the transmit button and wait
20 seconds for a response (also listen for the click that indicates the
repeater was hit by your signal).
- If no response, repeat the sequence two more times, allowing 20
seconds between attempts. If no response after 3rd try, say
"No contact with Granby Base, Monarch Clear" and try again
later.
- A typical response would be: "Monarch -----Granby”.
- Relay your message. For example: "Monarch Cabin is open for the day”
- Granby would respond with information: "OK, have a good day."
- After any further discussion, close with: "OK, thank you,
Monarch clear." Remember to keep any conversation limited to the business
at-hand, so that the airwaves are not tied up.
- Granby would respond with: "Granby clear,".
REMEMBER TO:
- Turn off your radio during a lightning storm. Tell Granby that you are
"Going out of service due to lightning."
- When the storm passes, call Granby back and state "Monarchis back in service."
- Always call out of service when you close up.
